I understand that there are “unwritten rules” about baseball, and that if you go hard into second base, you leave yourself open to getting beaned, but the fact of the matter is that throwing at a guy doesn’t solve the issue. It won’t un-injure the player on your team that got hurt. This isn’t a tit-for-tat deal.

Ramirez, in his third full season in the majors (he got only 14 PA in 2013), triple-slashed a robust .312/.363/.462, while striking out at a mere 10.0% clip (good for fifth-best among qualified hitters). His 2016 was a great season, he even received a few MVP votes, but Ramirez still doesn’t get enough love.

Chris Correa, the former director of scouting for the St. Louis Cardinals, reportedly gained unauthorized access to the Houston Astros’ online system, Ground Control, in 2013 and 2014. He stole a plethora of information, such as trade targets, proposals, and prospect rankings and draft evaluations. At the time of the leak, it was not known that the Cardinals were behind the hacking, but in 2015, the Cardinals came under fire by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for allegedly perpetrating the hack and leaking the documents. Those allegations ended up being true; Correa was sentenced to 46 months in prison, forced to pay a fine of roughly $300K, and handed a lifetime ban from baseball.

It’s safe to say that a lot of people don’t like Curt Schilling. And that might be an understatement.
Whether it be his hatred for and frequent run-ins with the media post-career, repeated sharing of offensive material on Twitter, or his seemingly arrogant attitude in general, Schilling does not have as many fans as he did when he was a player. But I’m firmly of the belief that if it happened once his career ended, he should not be penalized for it in the Hall of Fame race.
